Greece, the birthplace
of democracy, has had a profound influence on western civilization through
her ancient philosophers, poets, scientists, and athletes. About 95%
of the country's 11 million people belong to the Greek Orthodox
Church. Although only about 2% of the population attend church on a
regular basis, religious ideology and festivals are an integral part of
Greek life. As recorded in the New Testament, Greece was the first
European country reached with the Gospel, yet today Muslims statistically
outnumber Greek Protestants.
