Italy, a mountainous
country about the size of Arizona, is home to about 57.2 million people.
Forty percent of the population is found in the north in the great fertile
basin of the Po River. More than 94% of Italians claim to be Roman
Catholic, but only 30% practice their religion. Roman Catholicism
ceased to be the state religion in 1984; now all religions in theory have
equal freedom before the law. This country, where there are 250
assemblies and many national workers, is open to the Gospel.
